CHALDEANS, Learned and wise men of the east
youths in whom was no defect, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and endowed with knowledge, and understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king's palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the CHALDEANS.
Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the enchanters, and the sorcerers, and the CHALDEANS, to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.
Then the magicians, the enchanters, the CHALDEANS, and the soothsayers came in; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.
The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the CHALDEANS, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing, and shows me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."
