JEHOIAKIM, Wicked reign and final overthrow of
34. Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to JEHOIAKIM; but he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt and died there.
35. JEHOIAKIM gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, from everyone according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.
36. JEHOIAKIM was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
37. He did that which was evil in The LORD's sight, according to all that his fathers had done.
1. In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and JEHOIAKIM became his servant three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him.
2. The LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to The LORD's word, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.
3. Surely at the commandment of the LORD this came on Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did,
4. and also for the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD would not pardon.
5. Now the rest of the acts of JEHOIAKIM, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
6. So JEHOIAKIM slept with his fathers, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.
4. The king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to JEHOIAKIM. Neco took Joahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.
5. JEHOIAKIM was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did that which was evil in the LORD his God's sight.
6. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him, and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.
7. Nebuchadnezzar also carried some of the vessels of The LORD's house to Babylon, and put them in his temple at Babylon.
8. Now the rest of the acts of JEHOIAKIM, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah; and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.
13. "Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness,and his rooms by injustice;who uses his neighbor's service without wages,and doesn't give him his hire;
14. who says, 'I will build myself a wide house and spacious rooms,'and cuts out windows for himself;with a cedar ceiling,and painted with red.
15. "Should you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar?Didn't your father eat and drink,and do justice and righteousness?Then it was well with him.
16. He judged the cause of the poor and needy;so it was well, then.Wasn't this to know me?"says The LORD.
17. But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness,for shedding innocent blood,for oppression, and for doing violence."
18. Therefore the LORD says concerning JEHOIAKIM the son of Josiah, king of Judah:"They won't lament for him,saying, 'Ah my brother!' or, 'Ah sister!'They won't lament for him,saying 'Ah lord!' or, 'Ah his glory!'
19. He will be buried with the burial of a donkey,drawn and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem."
22. Then JEHOIAKIM the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;
23. and they fetched Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him to JEHOIAKIM the king, who killed him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
