18. I commanded you at that time, saying, "The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it. You shall pass over armed before your brothers the children of Israel, all the men of valor.

19. But your wives, and your little ones, and your livestock, (I know that you have much livestock), shall live in your cities which I have given you,

20. until the LORD gives rest to your brothers, as to you, and they also possess the land which the LORD your God gives them beyond the Jordan. Then you shall each return to his own possession, which I have given you."

12. Joshua spoke to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of MANASSEH, saying,

13. "Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, 'The LORD your God gives you rest, and will give you this land.

14. Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock, shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but you shall pass over before your brothers armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them

15. until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.'"

12. The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of MANASSEH, crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.

13. About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before the LORD to battle, to the plains of Jericho.
