But Jonah rose up to flee to TARSHISH from the presence of The LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to TARSHISH; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to TARSHISH from the presence of The LORD.

He prayed to The LORD, and said, "Please, The LORD, wasn't this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to TARSHISH, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.
