BAAL, 1. An idol of the Phoenicians, god of the sun
For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he raised up altars for BAAL, and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.
2. Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
3. He also walked in the ways of Ahab's house, because his mother was his counselor in acting wickedly.
4. He did that which was evil in The LORD's sight, as did Ahab's house, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.
For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God's house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of The LORD's house to the BAALs.
but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made molten images for the BAALs.
